Gordon William Bellars was born in Monmouth on 31 December 1909 and attested for the Coldstream Guards on 19 April 1929. He transferred to the Royal Army Pay Corps on 30 June 1931, ands served with them during the Second World War, being captured and taken Prisoner of War in Crete on 31 May 1941. Repatriated following the cessation of hostilities, he was commissioned Second Lieutenant on 23 March 1946, and was promoted Lieutenant and Paymaster on 23 September 1947. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 15 June 1948, and relinquished his commission on 24 July 1948. He died in Middlesborough on 6 January 1980.
