Five: Private P. E. Hampton, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, attached 9th Parachute Battalion, who was wounded during the aftermath of the crossing of the Dives during the advanced on the River Seine on 21 August 1944

P. E. Hampton attested for the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and served during the Second World War attached to 9th (Eastern and Home Counties) Parachute Battalion, Parachute Regiment in North-West Europe; possibly present for his battalion’s assault on the Merville Gun Battery on D-Day itself, 6 June 1944, he was wounded in action in the aftermath of the crossing of the Dives during the advance on the Tougues and Seine Rivers on 21 August 1944. He subsequently served with the 2nd Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry in post-War Palestine.
