Frederick George Davey was born in St Thomas, Exeter in 1883. A Gardener by trade he attested for the 4th (Territorial) Battalion Devonshire Regiment on 24 October 1914 and embarked for India on 12 December 1914, serving with 2/4th Battalion at Ferozepore until embarking to join the Egypt Expeditionary Force on 15 October 1917. On demobilisation he returned to Exmouth and saw further service during the Second World War as a Sergeant with the St John Ambulance Brigade, receiving his medal for 15 years’ service in the Order in 1949. He died at Budleigh Salterton on 27 October 1967, aged 84.
