MILITARY MEDAL, G.V.R. (4850700 Pte., 2-Leic. R.) edge bwise and polished, therefore good fine and better

M.M., London Gazette, 20 October, 1925 ... . for bravery in connection with operations at Khartoum in 1924.

A total of 4 M.M. 's were awarded for Khartoum, to Privates Jones and Percival of the Leicesters, and Privates McLeod and Wright of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. The awards were made as a result of efforts to quell a little known mutiny of the 11th Sudanese Infantry in November 1924, when they took up arms against their British Officers and tried to take over the city. In the subsequent action the mutineers barricaded themselves into a hospital which was taken back at the point of the bayonet, following a bombardment by a howitzer. No campaign medal or clasp was issued for this action (Ref. 'For Bravery in the Field' by C. K. Bate and M. G. Smith).
