D.C.M., London Gazette, 20 October, 1916: ‘For conspicuous gallantry in action. He ran out wire on the top of the parapet to obtain communication. This wire could not be laid in the trench and, although warned of the danger and sniped at the whole time, he successfully completed his task.’
