Major William Loraine Conran (1862-1909) was first commissioned, ex Sandhurst, 10 May 1882 as Lieutenant, Royal Irish Fusiliers and served with them at the battle of Tel-el-Kebir in 1882 He was appointed to the Bombay Staff Corps 20 October 1884 and from April 1894 was employed in the Foreign Department (He is listed as being 'on special duty in Rajputana' April 1895 to January 1896, and in 1899 as 'Unpaid Atraché, Intelligence Branch, Q.M.G.'s Dept.' From July 1900 to October 1905 he was a Special Service Officer with the Intelligence Branch, Q.M.G. 's Dept., serving with the Imperial Service Troops in China. He was promoted Major, l0 July 1901, and second-in-command, 125th Rifles, 12 May, 1903. He died in the U.K. on 30 August 1909.
