NEW ZEALAND POLICE LONG SERVICE, 3 clasps, 22 Years Service, 30 Years Service, 38 Years Service (No. 740 Serg. P. Harvey, N.Z. Police (1910)) very fine and rare

Peter Harvey was born in Scotland in 1870 and joined the New Zealand Police in April 1895. He was promoted Sergeant in 1908, Senior Sergeant 1920, and Sub Inspector in 1926, retiring in February 1935. He was awarded the last clasp to his long service medal in April 1934, reflecting 38 years service. No service clasps were awarded for more than 38 years and this medal therefore, carries the maximum number of extra service if clasps issued with the long service medal. Peter Harvey had in fact completed all but two months of 40 years service in the New Zealand Police by the time of his retirement.
