George Augustus Brown served as Adjutant and Interpreter with the 21st (now the 1st) Native Infantry, with the Force under Major-General Sir S. Cotton, K.C.B., in the Hills on the Eusufzaie border, in April and May 1858. He was present at the destruction of Chinglee and Sattana. Brown succeeded to the Command of the Regiment on the return of the Force from Chinglee, and commanded it in the attack on Sarrana, and during the end of the time the Force was out. He received the thanks of the Major-General Commanding the Force, in his Despatch of 1858. He rose to the rank of Brevet Colonel, Commandant 38th Bengal Native Infantry.
