MILITARY MEDAL, G.VI.R. (794324 Naik, R.I.A.S.C.) good very fine
M.M., London Gazette, 20th September, 1945. Sold with a copy of the original recommendation for a periodic award. Naik Sardar Khan was in charge of a Muletrain working with the Sherwood Forresters and the 2nd Bn. 338th U.S. Infantry in Italy. His lengthy citation specifically mentions the night of 20th/2lst November 1944 when he led a muletrain on to N. CALDERARO feature by feeling the hoof marks in complete darkness and under heavy shell fire. When the snow had frozen on the extremely narrow track to FRASINETO the going was extremely difficult on dark nights. Mules frequently fell several hundred feet below into the valley in close proximity of the enemy but Naik Sardar Khan always retrieved and delivered the loads they were carrying.
