Two groups attributed to Commander F.W.B. Maxwell-Heron, Royal Navy

Baltic 1854; Crimea 1854-55, 2 clasps, Azov, Sebastopol; China 1857, no clasp; Canada G.S., 1 clasp, Fenian Raid 1866; Order of the Medjidie; Turkish Crimea, these mounted as worn, together with four continental sized miniatures representing his service in the Baltic, Crimea and China campaigns, very fine or better (10)

Commander F.W.B. Maxwell-Heron was born in 1838 and entered the Royal Navy as a Cadet in 1851. Thereafter he saw extensive active service in the Baltic, Crimea, China andCanada, commanding the ferry steamer Michigan at the time of the Fenian troubles in 1866.The latter vessel operated on the Upper Lakes in her supporting capacity to the Naval Force based at Windsor, and despite his relatively junior rank, Maxwell-Heron had over100 men under his command.In 1882, while acting as a Commander aboard the Drill Ship Clyde, the recipient was courtmartialled for appropriating funds from the sale of naval properry. The incident attracted agreat deal of press coverage and he was found guilry of several charges and dismissed the Service.
