John Lawrence Walker was a Tasmanian National Serviceman who enlisted into the Australian Army on 30 January, 1969. He was allotted to the Royal Australian Electrical Mechanical Engineers and joined the 1st Field Squadron Workshops in South Vietnam on 29 October, 1969. He was wounded in action at Phouc Tuy Province on 7 November, 1969, after his APC hit a land mine during operation ‘King’s Cross, in support of 5 R.A.R.
