Jim joined the Foreign Coin department of B.A. Seaby Ltd in 1974, travelling widely and meeting clients across three continents. These travels led to his lifelong interest in the coinage of Medieval Europe.

Moving to Knightsbridge Coins in 1980, he continued to deal in foreign material, while also handling and broadening his knowledge of British coins. During the next twenty years Jim attended all of the major British and international coin shows, gaining valuable experience and handling many major rarities.

In June 2007, Jim moved to Dix Noonan Webb, now Noonans, specialising in British coins from Celtic times to the present day, as well as foreign coins from the early Medieval period onwards.
