John Weymiss Grant was born on 5 April 1869. He qualified as a M.B., C.M. 1892. D.P.H. 1893, Aberdeen. Entering the Indian Medical Service as a Surgeon Lieutenant in July 1894, he served on the N.W. Frontier in the relief of Chitral in 1895. He was awarded the Kaisar-i-Hind 2nd Class on 23 May 1900. Grant attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in July 1914 and served during the Great War. He was awarded the Order of the Star of Nepal 3rd Class in November 1920 and retired in October 1924.
