A Verica Stater from the Chawton Hoard (2012)
Atrebates and Regni, Verica (10-40 AD), Stater, class 4 [Warrior Rex type], com.f on tablet, rev. warrior on horseback right, holding spear, vi above, rex below, 5.26g (Sills 363 var.; ABC 1190; BMC 1146ff; S 120). Good very fine and clearly struck with the reverse legend omitting the r of vir £1,200-£1,500
found as part of the dispersed Chawton Hoard (Hampshire) in 2012 (PAS HAMP-6DFB33)
It is possible that this coin was struck from a very late reverse die with the r missing; this variety is not noted by Sills. The curved crescent behind the horse, normally referred to as a lituus also closely resembles a woad grinder.
