D.C.M. London Gazette 3 June 1916:
‘For conspicuous gallantry on several occasions, notably when he established a telephone station in the enemy’s trenches during an attack after entering with the attacking party. He had previously volunteered to go in as a bomber.’


Lewis Preston was born in Leeds, Yorkshire in November 1894, and was the son of Elizabeth Lucas (formerly Preston) of Tuxford, Saskatchewan, Canada. He served during the Great War with the 7th Battalion (1st British Columbia), Canadian Infantry, and died of wounds received on the Western Front, 11 September 1917. Private Preston is buried in the Weaste Cemetery, Salford, Lancashire.
