Hedley William Craig, a native of Bray, Co. Wicklow, attested for the Royal Engineers and served with them during the Great War on the Western Front from 30 September 1914. Commissioned Second Lieutenant on 1 January 1916, he subsequently served on attachment to 30 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps, and was killed in action in aerial combat over Samara, Mesopotamia, when his BE2c was shot down on 15 April 1917. He is buried in Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery, Iraq.
