D.C.M. London Gazette 3 September 1919: ‘For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During the active operations at Sailly Laurette, Chipidey, Maricourt, Maurepas and Saulcourt he organised and controlled the forward distribution of ammunition and stores with exceptional ability. This and his example of coolness and disregard of personal safety under shell and machine-gun fire very materially contributed to the success of these operations, and encouraged a vigorous fighting spirit particularly among the junior N.C.O.’s. and men.’
