Frank Dawes attested for the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and served with the 8th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 18 September 1915. He subsequently served in Salonika and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for ‘Devotion to duty’, before transferring to the Army Reserve.
