, Madras, a silver award medal, unsigned [by P. Orr & Sons], floral wreath encircling an opening flower, lion’s head at bottom, rev. artist’s pallet in wreath, edge named (Rustom D. Seodia, 1907), 54mm, 91.74g (Pudd. I, 948.76.2; cf. DNW M7, 2392). Rim marks and scuffs, otherwise very fine £70-£90

Rustom Dadabhoy Siodia (1881-1946) painter, illustrator and essayist, was the first Parsi, and the first or second Indian, ever to study at the Royal Academy in London; he was a student at the RA from March 1908 to December 1912. Returning to India he forged an art career that spanned the traditions of portraiture, landscape and history painting
