Charles I (1625-1649), Exeter mint, Halfcrown, ‘1642’, mm. Truro rose on obv., Exeter rose on rev., King, holding marshal’s baton aloft, galloping over arms, rev. scroll garnished oval shield with lion’s paws at sides and date in cartouche below, 14.85g/10h (Bull 663/22 (61-35); Besly L22, and BNJ 1992, pl. 15, this coin; SCBI Brooker 1013; N 2534; S 3071). Struck on a broad round flan, slight trace of crease, otherwise extremely fine, an exceptional example of this extremely rare issue; only 7 specimens traced by Besly £10,000-£12,000
