Patrick McCormick was born on 14 July 1837, and served in the ranks of the 23rd Foot for 13 years 128 days, rising to the rank of Sergeant-Instructor of Musketry. He was commissioned Quartermaster on 19 November 1873, and embarked with the 2nd Battalion for the Gold Coast two days later, receiving the Ashantee medal and clasp for Coomassie. He transferred to the 1st Battalion at Woolwich on 10 April 1880, and embarked for service in India in H.M. Troopship Malabar on 16 August 1880. He was granted the honorary rank of Captain in November 1883, and died in India on 5 June 1884.
