Frederick Charles Maisey was born on 7 July 1851, son of General F. C. Maisey, Bengal Army. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the 17th Regiment on 23 September 1871; Lieutenant, 28 October 1871; arrived in India in December 1871 and was transferred to the Bengal Staff Corps in September 1874, and posted as Wing Officer, 30th Bengal N.I.; Quartermaster, Wing Officer and Adjutant from December 1875; Officiating Adjutant, 1878-81; D.A.Q.M.G.,Khyber Line Force, 1880; Captain, 23 September 1883; Officiating 2nd in command, 30th Bengal N.I., 15 June 1886; Second-in-Command, 27 July 1887; appointed to 29th Bengal N.I., 5 July 1889; Second-in-Command, 29th Bengal N.I., 26 November 1889; Second-in-Command, 30th Bengal N.I., 21 July 1891; Major, 13 September 1891; Commanding 30th Bengal N.I., 12 December 1893, tenure for seven years; Lieutenant-Colonel, 23 September 1897; ceased to be employed ‘residing out of India’, 12 December 1900; Retired, 16 December 1910.

Maisey served in the Second Afghan War 1878-80, in the action of the Peiwar Kotal, and operations in the Kama District. Mentioned in Brigadier-General J. Doran’s despatch of 18 June 1880 (Medal with clasp). Served on the North West Frontier of India, in the Mahsud-Waziri expedition of 1881, and in the 1st and 2nd Miranzai (Samana) expeditions of 1891 (Mentioned in despatches G.G.O. 652 of 1891; returned as ‘wounded’ London Gazette 15 September 1891; Medal with clasp). Served in the Relief of Chitral 1895 (Medal with clasp); North West Frontier of India 1897-98, operations on the Samana and in the Kurrum Valley during August and September 1897 (2 clasps); Tirah 1897-98, operations in the Bazar Valley, 25 to 30 December 1897 (Despatches G.G.O. 244 of 1898; Clasp).

Lieutenant-Colonel Maisey died at Ottery St Mary, Devon, on 10 November 1929.
