Charles Heap was born in Leicester in 1875 and attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Shrewsbury on 2 January 1902. He served with the 123rd Squadron, 27th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry in South Africa during the Boer War from 1 May to 19 October 1902, transferring to the 126th Squadron, 27th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry on 1 July 1902. He was discharged at Aldershot on 26 October 1902, after 298 days’ service.
