Frederick Clement Barrett Shoults was born in Kent, England. His wife, Eleanor Ethel Shoults lived in Deal, Kent. By occupation a Hospital Superintendent, and having previously served in S.W. Africa with the South African Medical Corps, he attested for the South African Service Corps (Mechanical Transport) on 18 December 1916, aged 38 years. With the S.A.S.C. he disembarked at Dar-es-Salaam on 4 January 1917 but was returned to South Africa in December 1917 suffering from Malaria. He was discharged as permanently unfit for tropical service on 7 May 1918. With copied service papers.

Dorothy Eleannor Shoults, daughter of the above, was before the war, a Trained Nurse employed by the Rand Mines Ltd., Johannesburg. She served with the South African Military Nursing Service, 24 May 1941-15 December 1945, seeing service in Egypt, October 1941-May 1944. With copied service papers.
