The gunboat H.M.S. Gnat won Battle Honours for the Mediterranean 1940-45 and Libya 1941. Having contributed valuable support off North Africa, she was torpedoed by the U-79 north of Bardia in June 1941 and, though severely damaged, was beached at Alexandria. Thereafter she was employed as a a fixed Anti-Aircraft platform.
