Christopher James Barker died of wounds on 20 March 1943, while serving in the destroyer H.M.S. Derwent - the previous day, in Tripoli harbour, his ship had been severely damaged by a torpedo dropped by a Ju. 88. He left a widow resident in Bedale, Yorkshire, was 40 years of age and is buried in Malta (Capuccini) Naval Cemetery. Derwent was a veteran of the Malta run, while his earlier appointment in the Offa, another destroyer, may have encompassed her Battle Honours for Norway 1941 and Arctic 1941-45.
