In our Auction No. 5 (1/6/1994), an important group of eight medals were wrongly attributed to H. St. Lerche (Lots 39 to 46), and in Auction No. 13 (31/5/1995)), another four medals (Lots 153 to 156), which were withdrawn following new information. Those four lots are now re-presented with the correct attribution, this lot and the following three.
Hans Stoltenberg Lerche (Dusseldorf, 1867- Rome, 17th April 1920), sculptor and medallist, worked with Carriere, lived in Paris between 1894 and 1900, exhibited with the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts (1895-1912). Settled in Rome in 1900, he produced less than 30 unique cast Æ decorative plaques which are, obviously, extremely rare.
