Kenneth Nuttall attested for the 11th (2nd Reserve) Battalion Loyal North Lancashire Regiment on 11 December 1915. Posted to the 2nd Battalion, he entered the East African theatre of war on 24 May 1916. Whilst there he was in hospital suffering from dysentery, July-August 1916 and malaria, October-November 1916. He then served in Egypt, 27 December 1916-17 May 1918, where he was again treated for malaria, January-February 1917. Nuttall was then posted to France where he was wounded in action on 29 July 1918, suffering a gunshot wound to fingers on his right hand. After leave in England, 28 October-11 November 1918, he returned to France, remaining there until March 1919 when he returned home to England and was transferred to Army Class Z Reserve on 12 April 1919.
