Alfred Jackson Smith was a Labourer at H.M. Dockyard Portsmouth and qualified for the single British War Medal with service aboard the battleship H.M.S. Agincourt. He then enlisted into the Hampshire Regiment on 10 December 1915. He served with the 2nd Battalion Hampshire Regiment and was attached to the 1st Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment when he was discharged on 24 August 1917 due to wounds.
