Charles Valentine Brazier attested for the 2nd Rhodesian Regiment at Bulawayo, Rhodesia, on 9 November 1914. He was promoted to Acting Lance-Corporal in February 1915, Corporal in December 1915, Lance-Serjeant in April 1916 and Serjeant in July 1916. He served in East Africa from 9 March 1915 to 28 December 1916, and participated in the actions at Taveta, German Bridge, Mkalamo, Lukigura, Mkindu and Morogoro in German East Africa. Sergeant Brazier was discharged at Salisbury, Rhodesia, on 17 October 1917.
