Harry Grosch was born in London on 17 January 1893 and was educated at Haverstock Hill and Higham Hill Schools. A Commercial Clerk by occupation and a member of the Southern Rhodesia Volunteers, he attested for the 1st Rhodesia Regiment on 22 October 1914. With them he served in German South West Africa, 15 November 1914-26 July 1915 and was demobilised on 31 July when the regiment was disbanded. Grosch attested for the Territorial Force on 4 February 1916, having entered the Inns of Court O.T.C. on 2 February. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 3rd (Reserve) Battalion Suffolk Regiment on 28 June 1916 and in August was posted to the 2nd Battalion, joining them in the field in France on 25 September 1916. He was advanced to Acting Captain on 24 April 1917. Serving at Bapaume on 17 August 1917 he injured his left knee. Grosch was promoted to Lieutenant on 28 December 1917. He relinquished his rank of Acting Captain and retired due to ill health on 12 March 1919, and was granted the rank of Captain. He died on 22 December 1976. With copied service papers.
