Arthur Davies was born in Blackpool, Lancashire. A Labourer by occupation, he attested for the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment at Preston on 13 October 1908. Prior to the Great War he served in Mauritius, February-November 1909 and India, November 1909-October 1914. With the 2nd Battalion he disembarked at Mombassa, British East Africa on 16 October 1914, and took part in the landing and battle for Tanga, German East Africa, 3-5 November 1914. Later in the war he served in Egypt, December 1916-October 1917 and March-May 1918. Davies was demobilised on 12 April 1919, being transferred to Section ‘B’ Army Reserve. He was discharged as time expired on 12 October 1920. With copied service papers and m.i.c.
