James Blackwell Sybray volunteered as a Rifleman in the Selukwe Rifle Company, Southern Rhodesia Volunteers, on 21 September 1907 and served as such until 1 March 1914. On 17 December 1914 he attested for the 2nd Rhodesia Regiment. With them he saw service in East Africa, 9 March 1915-14 April 1917, and is credited with seeing action in the battles of Latema and Mkolamo. Released from service with the regiment on 20 August 1917, he was transferred to the Rhodesia Native Regiment as a Sergeant. With them he served in German East Africa, 17 September 1917-25 November 1918. He was released from service on 20 March 1919. Sybray later volunteered for the Bromley Rifle Platoon, May 1924-January 1932. He was awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Force L.S. Medal on 4 March 1932. With copied research.
