Thomas Ennis was born on 30 January 1883 in Portland, Dorset, and attested for the Derbyshire Regiment at London on 30 January 1897. Appointed a Drummer on 13 September of that year, he was promoted Corporal on 3 May 1906. He served during the Great War as a Sergeant Drummer with the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment in France from 4 November 1914, and was killed in action on the Western Front on 8 July 1916, being commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
