Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., 3rd issue, small letter reverse (1774. Dm.-Mjr. M. M.Carthy. 1st. Bn. 14th. Rgt.) nearly very fine £70-90

Michael McCarthy was born in 1822 at Carrick-on-Shannon, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, and attested for the 14th (Buckinghamshire) Regiment of Foot at Ballymahon, Co. Langford, on 19 August 1840. Appointed a Drummer on 29 August 1843, he was promoted a Corporal on 25 April 1854, and a Sergeant on 1 April 1855. He was awarded his Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal, together with a Gratuity of £5, on 7 August 1860, and was discharged on 17 September 1861 after 21 years and 30 days’ service.
