Robert William Persse White was born in Dublin in January 1860 and was commissioned Lieutenant in the Welsh Regiment in August 1883, direct from the R.M.C. Sandhurst.

Having then been advanced to Captain in December 1889, he served as a Deputy Assistant Adjutant-General at Singapore from 1896-1903. As a consequence, he was seconded for service in the Boxer Rebellion and attached to the H.Q. Staff of the China Expeditionary Force in August-September 1900 (Medal & clasp).

Advanced to Major in January 1903, White was appointed Deputy Assistant Quarter-Master General to 2nd Army Corps in the following year, the first of several Staff appointments in the period leading up to his death in September 1907; sold with copied research.
