Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Transvaal, South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (Lieut. H. Pechell, Vol. Co. Welsh Rgt.), good very fine £180-220

Horace James Pechell was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the 3rd (Volunteer) Battalion, Welsh Regiment in April 1898. Advanced to Lieutenant in January 1899, he witnessed active service in South Africa, where he served in the Transvaal in 1901-02 (Queen’s Medal & 3 clasps). He was also awarded a Gold Tribute Medal by the town of Merthyr Tydfil; see Hibbard (Ref. D1).

Pechell transferred to the 1st (Volunteer) Battalion, Hampshire Regiment in August 1901 and thence the 4th Battalion (Territorial Force). He was advanced to Captain in January 1909 and resigned his commission in August 1911; sold with copied research.
