Air Commodore James Maitland Nicholas Pike, CB, DSO, DFC (b.1916), of Watlington, Oxon; educ. Stowe and RAF College, Cranwell (King’s Medallist, 1937); served in Aden, Middle East, Coastal Command, Malta and the Azores; at RAF Staff College, 1945-7; Group Capt 1955; commander of RAF St Mawgan and RAF Kinloss 1955-7; RAF Malta 1958-60 and Gibraltar 1961-2; appointed Air Commodore 1961; director of security, RAF 1965-9.
