I.D.S.M., London Gazette, 18 July ,1941. 'This sepoy displayed great coolness and courage throughout the operations in Eritrea and especially at the battle of CHEREN both on the 17 March and 25 March 1941. On 17 March when the company was withdrawing from its forward positions under ZABAN in order to readjust the line, this sepoy brought back a wounded comrade on his back and in spite of heavy artillery and sniping fire returned and carried back another casualty. Always willing and repeatedly carrying our tasks under fire with the utmost coolness, this sepoy has set a fine example to the other men of his section.'
