Partab Singh was awarded the I.D.S.M. for service in France some time before 19 November 1917, when his award was announced. The award was probably for service in the trenches preceding the battle of Cambrai which opened on 20 November 1917. On the Somme during August and September, the Central India Horse had provided men for fighting patrols which were frequently sent our across No Man's Land to reconnoitre or to raid the German trenches.
