Albert E. Chamberlain was born in Pimlico, Middlesex, on 9 November 1849 and joined the service as a Boy 2nd Class aboard H.M.S. ST VINCENT on 19 November 1863. Whilst serving aboard H.M.S. COSSACK in 1869 he was sent to prison for three months on a proved charge of assault. He joined ARGUS as a Leading Seaman in March 1873, advanced to Petty Officer 2nd Class a month later and was drafted from her to H.M.S. TAMAR in February 1874 for a month prior to his return to H.M.S. EXCELLENT. Whilst serving as a Petty Officer 1st Class aboard H.M.S. DRUID he died in Port Royal Naval Hospital, Jamaica, on 12 March 1881.
