656175 Sergeant D. Vallans flew as bomb aimer on twenty two combat missions, mostly with the same crew of French Canadians, in Wellington III bombers. His operations included, 6 November 1943, ‘bombs dropped on Wilhelmshaven area from 15,000 feet, Aircraft badly damaged by fighters & W/AG seriously wounded, one E/A is claimed destroyed by this aircraft’. Vallans was killed in action on 14 April 1943 when his aircraft failed to return from a bombing raid over Stuttgart.
