Major James Alexander Coulter was commissioned into the Highland Light Infantry in 1938 but was attached to the Black Watch during the Second World War. He was wounded as a Major with the 7th Battalion, Black Watch, in N.W. Europe on 12 August 1944. He subsequently served in Palestine with the Highland Light Infantry, retired from the Army in October 1958, and later was in charge of the C.C.F. at Bromsgrove School.
