M.C. London Gazette 7 November 1918: ‘For conspicuous gallantry during an attack. After all the Officers had become casualties he led a company with dash and ability to the final objective with few casualties. Later he returned to Battalion Headquarters where he organised a supply of ammunition and rations. It was largely due to his bold leadership and devotion to duty that no delay was caused in the reaching of the final objective.’ One of only 7 Military Crosses won by NCO’s of the Lancashire Fusiliers during the Great War.
