M.M. London Gazette 14 December 1916. The following citation was supplied by the Lancashire Fusiliers Depot and was for the same action in which L/Cpl. J. Ironsides (see previous lot) also won his M.M.: ‘During a heavy bombardment when an enemy attack was anticipated, this NCO went along the line inspiring confidence and greatly strengthening the morale of the men by his cool example under very trying circumstances.’
