M.M. London Gazette 19 February 1917. The following citation was supplied by the Lancashire Fusiliers Depot: ‘On 21 November 1916 during a heavy bombardment, when an enemy attack was anticipated Sgt. H. Worsnup and L/Cpl. J. Ironsides went along the line inspiring confidence and greatly strengthening the morale of their men by their cool example under very trying circumstances and with complete disregard for their own safety.’ See also the following lot.
