William Topham was born in Scarborough, lived in Penshaw, Manchester and enlisted at Salford. He was sent with the 12th Battalion to France in September 1915 and on to Salonika in November. He died in Salonika on 3 September 1916 and is buried in Salonika (Lembet Road) Cemetery, Greece.
