Alexander Carruthers was born and enlisted in Salford for the 2/8th Battalion. He was killed in action on 2 May 1917 when the enemy blew a mine between two saps occupied by the battalion.

George Pybus was born in the tiny hamlet of Green End, Goathland, near Whitby, North Yorkshire. He enlisted at Whitby for the 2/8th Battalion, and was 20 years old when he was killed in action on 9 October 1917, in the big attack at the battle of Poelcappelle.

Walter Riley, 1/8th Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, was killed in action on 23 October 1918.
