Probably served with the 2nd Section Mounted Infantry of the 3rd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers. Only 33 men left Malta on 18 May 1900 for South Africa, where they were posted to the 7th Battalion Mounted Infantry for the operations around Senekal, 28 July 1900. Only 33 Wittebergen clasps to the Lancashire Fusiliers.
