Private James Massie served in “F” Company, 90th Winnipeg Battalion Rifles and was ‘actively engaged and bearing arms in the suppression of the Indian and Half Breed outbreak in the North West Territories, 1885.’ He received a grant of ‘Bounty Land’ from the government for his services in the rebellion, his allotted share being 320 acres.
